Five years ago, two strong Columbia-based Aries musicians Josh Roberts and Danielle Howle, shared a double whammy birthday rock concert celebration at the beginnings of what is now called Awendaw Green.
The Barn Jams at Awendaw Green have become the Southeast's indie/grass-roots connecting hinge for musicians who are making hardcore culture shifts in American music today.
Josh Roberts and The Hinges, affectionately known to fans as J-RATH are teaming up again with Danielle Howle + Firework Show to bring you Owl-Rath Fest. This will be a night of unadulterated rock and roll face melting, combined with the most subtle of harmonic moments.
Owl-Rath Fest musicians will conjure the ancient musical conversation about the celebration and calling up of creativity in it's truest form of action. GRIT- OFF Rules and info
Your Grits shall be eaten and judged by five local, notable personalities to see which GRIT-OFF dish is THE BEST!. The following categories will be deciding factors. Winners will be announced between the band's performances during the music festival. Check Fest schedule for exact times.
1. TASTE – does this pot of grits or grit popsicle or fried grit sandwich taste good? Well, hells yes!! Good for your chances!
2. ORIGINALITY/CREATIVITY – Even if your grits taste like poop, you could actually still win points in this category- Just this one! However, surprise the judges with your awesomness and style.
3. PRESENTATION – Strut your stuff-well, we mean Grits.
What to bring:
A pot of your favorite grit recipe (already cooked) with enough to serve 10-20 people.
A sturdy table for your grits and your own potholders, hand towel, and anything to safely handle your grits!!
Please bring your own propane set-up if you are heating grits this way. :)
If you are using an electrical heating device, let us know in advance, so we can provide power to the grit people!
What we have:
There will be a bed of coals available for contestants as an alternative grit warmer.
We will provide regulation grit bowls and utensils for your Grit fansto grub!!!
We have a few extra tables, so if you need to reserve one, email Danielle on this website!
THE PRIZES!- you get a crazy hand-made trophy
1. Free day-trip for four! A guided tour of Swamp House, some Grits to eat and a musical performance by DH. (to be redeemed within 6 months of Grit-off)
